Great Yarmouth FEPOW Memorial

August 19th at 11am

A gathering will be held at Great Yarmouth Sea front Memorial to lay a wreath at 11am on Sunday 19th August, this will be followed by a get together at a meeting hall (Maritime House) within a short walking distance (100-150 yards) from the memorial.

Great Yarmouth 3

It is planned that the day be informal dress and will be left to the Fepows attending if they would like to wear their medals and Fepow blazers.

I would suggest that as it is peak weeks in Great Yarmouth’s holiday season, please arrive in time to obtain a car parking space. Any wheelchair or buggy attending Fepows please let me know well in advance as Great Yarmouth will cordon off some car parking space for you at the car park shown in the above map.

It has been a rush to try to sort out a gathering this year hopefully next year there will be more time to plan more get togethers.

Please email Ron.Taylor@fepow-day.org if you will be there. It is hoped that the Fepow pins will be available on the day.

U.S.A. Celebration

The 15th on the 11th of August 2007, 62 years after the date.

There will be a commemoration ceremony on the 11th at the Los Angeles International Cemetery in California as has been the case for many, many years in the past.

Speeches will be held, wreaths laid and a choir will sing at the National Flagpole. People will come from far and wide, even from Europe in memory of this Special Event, the Japanese surrender of 62 years ago. Many, many pure Dutch and Dutch-Indonesians in the Dutch armed forces have given their lives at land and at sea during this turbulent period, not to mention the numerous civilians who have suffered and died in camps. For those interested, pictures taken during past events can be viewed by visiting www.cityofpraise.com , clicking on "Special Events" and wading to some of the Dutch text to get to it. This suffering has also been vividly described in the book "The Defining Years of the Dutch East Indies, 1942-1949...........quot; that can be accessed by clicking on www.krancher.org and referring to the book title.

Regards to all those who will commemorate this special event worldwide.

Jan Krancher, California, USA
